west bloomfield trail
The West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation Commission secured grants from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Michigan Department of Transportation to design and build a 2.7-mile trail within a former railroad corridor. The majority of the trail extension is a 10’ wide compacted limestone with some sections of wooden boardwalk to protect wetlands that extend into the trail corridor.
The West Bloomfield Trail is part of the larger existing and planned network of trails designated as the Lake-to-Lake Michigan Airline Trail. Project tasks included topographic and boundary survey, stakeholder input, development of a 3D model, wetland permits, road crossing designs, overlooks, boardwalk, bench nodes, and signage. The project was designed to MDOT and Road Commission of Oakland County standards. Construction completed in 2013.
