at livingLAB we create urban environments, play spaces, parks, and lively streets with, and for, community.

Our unique approach to landscape architecture and planning ensures community is reflected in design.

Focused on People…

Our focus on resident-led urban design improves the experience of public life in the spaces and places we create alongside architects, civil engineers, and community members. As landscape architects and planners we focus on lifting up the people around us through beautiful, engaging, fun, and inspired spaces.

We believe great spaces and places require many different people working together to envision, to build, and to steward them.

We respect the diverse cultures, communities, and environments in which we work.

We bring delight to our process, to our designs, and to the people who experience them.

and the Triple Bottom Line

Our work, and our business model, consider both the natural and built environments, focusing on the three pillars of triple bottom line design:

  • Social equity

  • Economic well-being

  • Environmental protection

We strive to create engaging public spaces that:

  • Create a more natural habitat for people, wildlife and plants, even in urban environments

  • Reduce maintenance and ongoing costs

  • Mitigate negative environmental impacts such as stormwater runoff, light pollution, and heat island effect

  • Include features that are beneficial to the natural world and the people that live in it

How We Do What We Do

Engage Community.

livingLAB’s approach to community engagement is rooted in co-creation. We seek first to understand the goals of engagement; ensure collaboration via participation; all with a goal to achieve long-term and sustainable outcomes, processes, relationships, discourse, decision-making, and ultimately, support for project implementation.

Elevate Design.

Our team of landscape architects and planners co-create alongside architects, civil engineers, municipal leaders, developers, and community members. We do this work by listening, collaborating and advocating.

Our work straddles the live between design and community advocacy — bringing voice to the design process.

Grow Ideas.

We support our clients throughout the lifecycle of a project by following the process from programming and concept though to construction.

Projects often change as they transition from concept to implementation on the site - and we work to ensure the vision stays at the forefront throughout the process.

Project Highlights

With so many projects reflecting community, we share a few key examples here that highlight the people we work with and the spaces we’ve been lucky enough to co-create.
