downtown boxing gym rain garden

livingLAB was the lead landscape architect for a recently constructed rain garden at the Downtown Boxing Gym property in Detroit. The DBG is a non-profit that supports young people in Detroit through education, athletics, mentorship and intervention. In addition to their mission of supporting youth, the DBG has been on a journey toward improving the sustainability of their building and property. With help from a Detroit Future City mini-grant, livingLAB documented existing conditions and stormwater drainage areas, designed the green stormwater infrastructure practice and developed construction plans and details for contractors to bid.  livingLAB also worked closely and coordinated with the Contractor (Natural Community Services) on behalf of the Downtown Boxing Gym during the construction phase to ensure implementation according to the plans.
